2025/2026

Research lines/projects

The goal of the project is to explore the benefits of the use of vortex light beams in magneto-optics (Brillouin light scattering and Kerr effect). In particular the effects of these twisted light beams will be considered for both the detection and the manipulation of the magnetic order in magnetic thin films.

Description and additional information

Strenghts of the offer/Expected benefits

The Nano-Magnetism research team at LSPM has strong expertise and an excellent reputation in the study of magnetic excitations and spin-wave dynamics in magnetic thin films, as well as their interaction with light. In particular, the team is a recognized leader in Brillouin Light Scattering (BLS). The visitor will have access to a large experimental facility that includes four BLS setups (one dedicated to them during their visit), magneto-optical Kerr benches, and ferromagnetic resonance equipment. In addition, a brand-new setup is currently being developed to push the frontiers of magneto-optics — for example, at small scales using optical and tip-enhanced microscopy, or with exotic light sources such as vortex beams. This visit will also contribute to the development of an extension to this setup, integrating a spatial light modulator to generate and control optical vortex beams.
